The Layne in Fieldstore, Texas

There’s no place like home, and while I may wander, I am not lost.

Sunrise from Jennifer’s Layne in Fieldstore, Texas always brings this little John Denver melody to my mind:

If I had a tale that I could tell you

I’d tell a tale sure to make your smile

If I had a wish that I could wish for you

I’d make a wish for sunshine all the while

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy

Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry

Sunshine on the water looks so lovely

Sunshine almost always makes me high

Home is where the heart is and my heart has a permanent spot on Bruner Road in Waller County, Texas – small county, big heart. Just far enough outside the city lights so that all of God’s creations in the sky shine brightly on the back pasture. The Layne is exactly in the middle of Fields Store Community and golf cart distance (or horse if you prefer) to church.

The Bruner Road Home Owner’s Association meets in the swimming pool and discusses such varied topics as the global warming, world politics, relationships, whose tractor got stuck this week, weed control, and concepts to convert a barndominium into Michelin recommended Country Clubhouse.

There’s a small hay pasture that grows enough (when we’re blessed) to feed our own critters and get rid of the rest. And, outside of severe drought years, fishing takes place in our little stock tank out front on lazy evenings; which is perfect for nieces and nephews who bless us with their visits.

I’ve been gone for a bit on a journey – saw a lot and learned a lot more. Biggest blessing of my life, you always see these in things with hind sight. The place here needs a little tender loving care, but it survived without me, and Uncle Henry, and still feels like home. Hope you’ll come and visit us when you can.
